Ok, a bit of an update as I know I have been slow with them over the last month.

Truth be told, I needed to take a 'mental health break' from social media, during what seem like even more chaotic times in the world right now. With every news feed showing nothing but negativity, it can be hard to stay focused on being positive.

I also believe (and maybe FB and the rest of them won't forgive me for saying this) that social media platforms are contributing to the ongoing mental health issues, especially among younger people, and we are conducting major research on that.

What hasn't stopped is the work on BIA. If you haven't visited recently, I urge you to do so, as there have been numerous updates (BAIRD being a significant one) with more to come, plus ongoing research into all things men and mental health.

Also, you will have seen that Gary has moved on to pastures new, which of course leaves a gap regarding the 'community' side of things. But for me, ultimately, BIA has always been about providing a support service for guys in Scotland to help them manage and support their own mental health. If I told you we had visits from 32 different countries last week, that would show you that the demand is growing bigger and bigger, and that can be a heavy load to carry.

So I need to give a belated thank you to those who support and fundraise for us. I probably don't do it enough, but that's because I'm usually nose-deep in figuring out how we can improve what we do. That has always been my driving force, but of course, we can't achieve it without the funding from those of you who have chosen BIA. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.

Where are we just now? The accounts are up-to-date (at last), but come October, I need to start working on them again—which means another item to add to my to-do list. We have reduced costs and increased research and funding for support services. I don’t, and never have, taken a salary, and with Gary moving on, that helps us further reduce overheads.

Next year we will celebrate nine years in existence, and I never saw that coming. But we couldn't be where we are without those of you who have supported us and continue to do so. As long as you do, I will carry on with the mission because it’s worth it. Remember, it’s not just about suicide prevention but about life preservation.

Until the next time (I’ll try not to make it so long, honest), thank you.

Dan
