The Reaching In Training Programme

Transforming Male Mental Health: A Training Day with Gary Goldie

Reaching In Conversations.

Acknowledging the urgency of male mental health and suicide prevention, Brothers in Arms supported and helped fund Gary with his work on this training programme. It equips individuals across sectors - corporate, charity, education - with skills to address male mental health. The training supports those struggling and those navigating tough conversations at home or work.

The programme, validated by Strathclyde University, was developed with the Scottish Violence Reduction Unit and Rebel Rebel Barbers. It pioneers a new approach to male mental health outreach by proactively engaging rather than waiting for individuals to seek help. This initiative highlights our collective responsibility to support each other’s wellbeing, facilitating meaningful conversations that can save lives.

This project demonstrates empathy at work, affirming that one conversation can make all the difference.

Training Highlights

  • Analysis of bystander and assistance theory, forming the training foundation
  • Deep dive into Scotland’s male suicide statistics and societal impact
  • Techniques to initiate 'reach-in' conversations with anyone
  • Various intervention methods and support systems
