MENTAL WELLBEING AT FOREFRONT OF COLLEGE INITIATIVE
Date: Wednesday 22 May 2019
City of Glasgow College is working with men's mental health charity, Brothers in Arms, to increase awareness of and offer support for men’s mental health issues.
Through this new partnership, the college will offer a range of resources for students seeking help, and work to reduce the stigma that men often experience and which can be a barrier to seeking support.
Kirsty Macleod, Mental Health and Wellbeing Coordinator at City of Glasgow College, said:
“Our partnership with male-specific suicide prevention charity, Brothers in Arms, will allow the college to widen student access to a pioneering digital app that monitors and provides support for those experiencing stress and anxiety.
“As part of our college’s Mental Health Action Plan, we are developing robust protective factors that will give our students different coping strategies. In working with this particular charity our aim is to reach at-risk groups, particularly young men.”
Daniel Proverbs, founder of Brothers in Arms, said:
“We use digital tools, film and social media to create awareness around, and provide support for, men and their mental health. We are delighted to be working with City of Glasgow College and look forward to creating long term relationships with their students, helping to build confidence and offering confidential support.”
The Scottish based charity will have a regular presence at Riverside and City campuses on alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays, between 12.00pm and 2.00pm.
The partnership aims to challenge the culture that prevents men from seeking help when they need it, and further avenues of support throughout the college will include workshops, presentations and webinars.
